Jabbar was born in Bangladesh and spent her early years in England, Libya and
the United Arab Emirates. She eventually moved to Houston in 1991 to attend the
University of Houston.
Ms. Jabbar earned her Bachelor's in Business Administration
in 1995, graduating Magna Cum Laude. In 1998, she earned her Doctorate in Jurisprudence
from the University of Houston Law Center, where she was the recipient of the
Association of Legal Administrators Houston Chapter Award. Ms. Jabbar also served
as the President of the Asian Law Students Association and was the recipient of
their 1998-1999 Outstanding Member Award.
Ms. Jabbar is a member of the
State Bar of Texas, the Association of Women Attorneys, and the American Immigration
Lawyers Association, serving as the 2002-2003 AILA Texas Chapter Chair of the
Young Lawyer's Division. She is also a Texas Certified Mediator with advanced
training in mediating across cultures. Ms. Jabbar has mediated numerous cases
in the Justice of the Peace courts. She also continues to be active in local professional
organizations, such as the Greater Houston Partnership.
Although her prior
experience was mainly in the areas of medical malpractice, insurance and accounting,
Ms. Jabbar, the daughter of immigrants, is passionate about immigration issues.
Her current practice includes family and employment-based immigration, as well
as some litigation. An avid traveler, Ms.
Jabbar is proficient in French, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu.
